Grip : GRIP April 2013
SPORT GRIP GREENEDGE STARTS WELL Brian Nygaard Communications Director Orica GreenEDGE Cycling AT Orica GreenEDGE cycling we’ve had a great start to 2013, winning all Australian road and time trial titles for both our men’s and women’s teams. That means we’ll be flying the Australian flag even Gerrans back to his winning ways in front of a fabulous home crowd. In Malaysia, Peter Weening took second overall in the Tour of Langkawi. He confirmed his great shape by finishing sixth in the Tour of the Basque Country – widely considered as the hardest week-long stage race of the year. In general, our European season has really kicked off perfectly – all in all putting our victory count up to 14 even before the extremely important Ardennes Classics are up at the end of April. Our proudest moment so far was when we took two World Tour victories on the same day; when Matt Goss sprinted to victory in Tirreno-Adriatico, and Michael Albasini did the same at Paris-Nice. There are a lot of great goals for us out there still. As we go into the second part of the season, we’re getting ready to race our second Tour of Italy – or as they call it themselves: The Giro d’Italia. We’ll be on the hunt for more stage wins and will put a lot of effort and strategy into taking our first Grand Tour leader’s jersey in the first part of the Giro. more clearly throughout our international part of the season. We took the big Willunga Hill stage in Tour Down Under, where we saw Simon Subaru’s BRZ was a part of this year’s Targa Tasmania, running as the 999 safety car.
