Grip : GRIP March 2013
SPORT GRIP ACTION-PACKED MULTI-SPORT FESTIVAL THE biggest multi-sport event in the Australian summer, the Subaru ITU Triathlon at Mooloolabah, marked the start of the World Cup season that will take the sport’s elite competitors to Japan, Mexico, Canada, Spain, Hungary, South Korea and Colombia across 2013. Australian-based duo, Germany’s Anne Haug and Great Britain’s Jodie Stimpson, took the honours over home-town hero, Emma Moffatt, in the women’s event, while Olympic silver medalist, Spain’s Javier Gomez, won the men’s race held in hot, steamy conditions on the Sunshine Coast. Peter Kerr, third, was the leading Australian male. Subaru Ambassador, Emma Jackson, had to settle for twelfth place in the women’s field, having been within striking distance of the lead in the swim and cycle legs, before dropping off on the run. It was huge three days of action, with big fields turning out for all events at the USM Mooloolabah Triathlon Festival. Events held included a five-kilometre twilight run, an ocean swim, as well as individual and team triathlons. As usual, the Subaru stand was one of the top attractions at the Festival, with the cars and some of the sport’s stars, including Emma Jackson Subaru ambassadors, Emma Jackson and Ashleigh Gentle, being interviewed on the Subaru stand at the Subaru ITU Triathlon in Mo olo olabah. and Courtney Atkinson, providing plenty of entertainment.
