NEWS GRIP Check out the Subaru website subaru.com.au BRZ TROPHY CABINET OVERFLOWS LONG time Jarvis Subaru employee, Denis Tongerie, passed away on December 14. Denis had been fighting an aggressive form of cancer during the latter half of 2012. Throughout this difficult period Denis was for tunate to have had the amazing support of his much loved wife of 39 years, Judy, and their son Brad. Denis has not only been a great contributor to the business over his 23 years, but also earned the respect of everyone he encountered. He was well known for his wonderful VALE: DENIS TONGERIE character and lighthearted nature. Deepest sympathies go to Judy and Brad from the Jarvis family and Subaru Australia. SUBARU’S BRZ sports coupe has consolidated its multi award-winning success by taking out the News Limited Carsguide People’s Choice Award. BRZ, in conjunction with the Toyota 86, had previously been named Carsguide’s Car of the Year in December. It has now gone on to gain an impressive 21 per cent of reader votes in the People’s Choice award, together with the 86. est Car of the Year 2012 y Wheels Car of the Year 2012 y News Limited/Carsguide Car of the Year 2012 y Carsales Australia network’s People’s Choice Best Performance Car Under $100,000 (with the Toyota 86) y Best Buy for 2012 - Australian automotive website themotorreport. com.au y Best Sports Car of 2013, Subaru also fared well in the sub-categories – the BRZ and 86 won the Sports/ Luxury section, with 31 per cent of the popular vote and Forester won the Best SUV/ Recreational section with 27 per cent. Liber ty achieved third place in the Best Family Car section, on 19 per cent. The latest BRZ success caps a remarkable run of awards: y TopGear Australia Fun- from the Canadian Autos.ca website y BRZ engine – winner, 2013 Ward’s 10 “Best Engines”, United States y 2013 Sports Car of the Year by Canadian website Auto123.com y 2012-2013 Japan Car of the Year “Special Award” (with the Toyota 86) y 2012 Sports Car of the Year in French car magazine, Echappement SUBARU of America (SoA) achieved its best-ever year with 336,441 sales, up 26.0 per cent. It also had its best-ever month with 36,653 sales in December 2012, while setting an all-time sales record for the fourth consecutive year. Subaru is the only manufacturer in the US to have posted five successive years of sales growth. US annual sales for Impreza totalled 68,175, up 148.9 per cent from 2011. Annual sales of Outback were 117,553, up 12.6 per cent from 2011. Legacy (Liber ty in Australia) sold 47,127, up 11.2 per cent from 2011. Forester sales of 76,347 were up 0.2 per cent from 2011 and the newly introduced BRZ and XV models also added 4144 and 7396 sales respectively. US, CANADA SET RECORDS In Canada, record annual sales of 31,003 were up 14.9 per cent on 2011. These were led by strong sales of Impreza, the newly introduced and acclaimed XV and steady Outback sales.
