Grip : GRIP March 2012
SUBARU rally driver and CAMS Australian Targa Championship titleholder, Dean Herridge, is making his first appearance for the season at Targa Tasmania, which runs from April 17 to 22. SPORT GRIP SuBARu STAR RETuRNS TO TARGA TASMANIA seems to get more and more difficult. This year will be no different, with more kilometres of tough competition, changeable weather and the best Tasmanian roads to test everyone. “This year we have had to sit out both Targa High Country and Targa Wrest Point, so this will be our first event. “The car will run at an identical spec to last year. We are hoping that the extra competitive distance will prove to suit our Subaru. “Winning won’t be easy up against some of the European supercars, but if we can find the right combination of speed, reliability and good fortune, we can find ourselves on the podium.” Targa Tasmania starts on April 17, and finishes in Hobart on April 22. Dean, 35, has missed the opening two rounds of this year’s series, and therefore has no chance of retaining his title, but the West Australian would dearly like to take his Subaru WRX to his first Targa Tasmania win. It’s an event he obviously has a soft spot for, and he can’t wait for the week-long challenge. “When most motorsport series’ are struggling and having to re-invent themselves, the Targa championship has managed to grow in the last few years in both the number of events and competitors,” Herridge said. “Every year Targa Tasmania NEIL BuckBy MOTORS JOINS TARGA Neil Buckby Motors from Launceston has become a sponsor of Targa Tasmania this year, with the supply of course cars. The WRXs look great in the company livery and will be seen on all Targa stages. Buckby Motors Sales Manager, Ben Newman, will drive a WRX in the event, co -driven by Dealer Principal, Crichton Lewis.
