Grip : GRIP September 2011
PARTS & ACCESSORIES GRIP THERE was an unusual scene at the Subaru headquarters car park during a lunch break recently. Staff gathered around looking at three Liber tys. They were not next generation models that had just arrived from Japan that created the diversion from normal business. In fact, they look pretty standard. But they weren’t. For the previous few weeks three teams had been working hard to create a special edition vehicle based on a Liberty wagon. The brief was to create a sporty special edition Liberty wagon using no more than $2000. The gathering in the car park represented judgement day – staff would vote and one model would win the People’s Choice Award. Each staff member was asked to judge the cars on four criteria: Sportiness Perceived value for money Originality Sales appeal Subaru Managing Director, Nick Senior, thanked everyone who had participated in the challenge and also everyone who voted. “It was great to see the passion and enthusiasm for the challenge and we’ve cer tainly seen some interesting ideas,” Senior said. “It is not an easy task working within a budget and coming up with new ideas and we saw similarities between all three cars. “For instance, everyone looked at wheels as an option and the choices on the cars very much illustrates that wheels are a personal thing. Hence the more variety the better, and it is something we are working with FHI to try and broaden the appeal. SUBARU CREATIVE CONCEpTS “Originality was a big challenge. Outside wheels, spoilers, etc., what can you do? But good to see two attempt something a little different with stripes.” Then the announcement everyone was waiting for: “The People’s Choice Award, as judged by your good selves, was an overwhelming victory for Car A,” Senior said. “Congratulations to the winning team who put Car A together - Steve Puckeridge, Michael Innins, Nicki Darch and Goran Popov. “It’s been fun and rewarding so we will do it again some time on a different model.” The winning Liberty – CarA 17” Enkei wheels with STI caps Liberty GT Front bumper Phillips Daytime running lights Sports mesh grille Front window tint INSIDE GRIP HOME PAGE AFTERSALES NEW PRODUCT - XV NEW PRODUCT - BRZ PARTS & ACCESSORIES AMBASSADOR SALES DEALERSHIP BRAND COMPARISON DEALER RANKINGS SPORT
