SUBARU sales nationally in July totalled 3022, down 231 or 7.1 per cent for the equivalent first seven months last year. Total Subaru sales for the year to date are 21,667, a drop of 11.1 per cent or 2695 units from 2010 YTD. But these figures need to be put in the contex t of the industry that is also down across the board. According to VFACTS, 577,227 vehicles have been sold to July 31 in 2011, down 5.9 per cent or 36,317 units on last year’s comparison of 613,544 sales. In July, 80,991 vehicles were retailed, 1385 fewer or 1.7 per cent down than YTD in 2010. Subaru’s market share for the year sits at 3.8 per cent (it was 3.7 per cent in July) compared to four per cent at the same time 12 months ago. Looking at sales by country of origin, Japan has been heavily affected this year, down 13.5 per cent for the month and 13 per cent for the year so far. NEW SOUTH WALES There were 24,893 cars retailed in NSW in July, of which Subaru accounted for 1255, down 8.2 per cent on July 2010 and 18.2 per cent YTD. Market share is also down in the country’s most populated state, but sat at 5 per cent in July for a 4.6 per cent total YTD. Impreza and Forester were the best sellers, with 429 and 451 respectively. Impreza was well up on July 2010 (by 63) and Tribecca had a strong month as well with 66 sales, up from 33 in July 2010. VICTORIA Subaru sold 738 cars in July (compared to 777 in July 2010) in a total Victorian market of 21,743, down 3.4 per cent for the month. Like nor th of the Murray, Impreza was the standout, with 244 sales, up 83 over July 2010 and it now exceeds 2010 YTD sales by 146 units, with a total of 1699 Impreza sales so far in 2011 - up 9.4 per cent. Forester is also holding up pretty well with 250 sales for the month (276 last July). QUEENSLAND In total, Queensland was up over five per cent in July, so too was Subaru, retailing 470 vehicles, up 7.8 per cent over July 2010. YTD is also up in the Sunshine State by 2.2 per cent (83 units). The major growth came from Forester and Impreza (Impreza up 17.3 per cent for the month and 18.9 per cent YTD), but Outback also contributed to the good news with 79 sales, up 26 over July 2010. SOUTH AUSTRALIA July news from SA was about AFL coaches jumping on their own sword, while August news is all about Premiers passing the baton (or was that the knife?). Vehicles sales wise, there were no such dramas as things were very steady, the market up 0.9 per cent for the month. Subaru did even better - an improvement of six per cent over July 2010 with 177 sales. TASMANIA The island state is doing it tougher than any, with the overall market down 8.3 per cent for the month and showing a 14.5 per cent decrease YTD, the biggest fall across the country. Certainly, the Subaru dealers had a tough time, down 25.1 over July last year, for a YTD drop of 18.1 per cent. Impreza is closest to breaking even when looking at comparative sales both for the month (-18.2 per cent) and the year (-6 .8 per cent). WESTERN AUSTRALIA Despite its boom-state status, things in the automotive game in WA are IMPREzA SHOWS THE WAY IN 2011 SALES GRIP tough. Overall, the market is down 10.1 per cent YTD and July witnessed an 11.9 per cent decline. Despite having a bad month, Subaru is holding up well for the year, up 0.01 per cent YTD. July, however, was bad news, down 30.6 per cent over July 2010, with 197 sales, with Forester and Liber ty taking the brunt of the fall. ACT The ACT saw 73 Subarus sold, down from 83 in July last year. Impreza did more than its fair share - up 73.3 per cent for the month and is 14.9 per cent up YTD. Subaru’s market share is well above the national average with 5.5 per cent, but down from six per cent this time last year.
