COLIN TAkES ON AFTERSALES ROLE WITH GUSTO WHO’S WHO AT SUBARU GRIP Colin Christie, Subaru Australia’s new General Manager Aftersales. COLIN Christie has taken over the role of General Manager Aftersales at Subaru Australia. The new job is a change from his role as Subaru’s CFO, but it is a challenge that Colin is looking forward to, and feels well equipped to handle. While his immediate -past job was more of a “bean- counter”, his background in the automotive industry is vast, and he comes to the operational role with a strong background and a real passion. He’s a busy man as he transitions from one role to the other. But GRIP found some time to catch up with him to find out a little more about the man and his vision for the future of Aftersales. GRIP: Tell us how you finished up working in the automotive business. CC: I have always been a bitofacarnutandIwas flicking through the paper onedayandsawanadto get in on the ground level of a car company. I didn’t hesitate and have been addicted ever since. GRIP: Once in that business, tell us what you have done. CC: I have been in the auto industry over 15 years now and have been fortunate enough to work across a number of areas, including distribution, retail and logistics. I had worked as a partner with the Subaru brand for most of those years and had always had a great admiration and passion for the brand, so when the opportunity came to join Subaru directly, I jumped at the chance. GRIP: You worked as CFO of Subaru before this appointment, and now you have moved into a specific business unit. What was the attraction of that move? CC: While I have really enjoyed the CFO role and was involved in and got a great understanding of the overall business, the operations elements of my role gave me a real hunger to get more directly involved with the network and our customers in trying to drive the All 4 the Driver experience. I hope to bring the experiences gained in my time in the industry, especially in retail and operations, as well as the knowledge of the Subaru business to the Aftersales area in what is a really exciting time for the brand. GRIP: It is a big job you have undertaken. What are your initial thoughts? CC: Over the last few months, I have spent time with a number of dealers and the feedback for what we are trying to achieve in the Aftersales business has been very positive. This has reinforced my view that we have a strong platform in place at Subaru to drive improved performance and our customer philosophy through initiatives like Service Customer Retention, NPS, our Wholesale and Preferred Crash Repairer networks, the Owner Communication Programs and our initial All 4 the Driver proof points, like PSRV. We are also piloting some further exciting initiatives as we speak. GRIP: That all takes up a lot more than 9 to 5. What does Colin Christie do to unwind? CC: At the moment, any spare time I have I try to spend with my family. I have two young kids, Lana, who is almost six and started school this year, and Alex, who is almost four and is a little Energiser bunny. They manage to exhaust any remaining energy I have!
